M is for the Mastodon Challenge; May 19 race to benefit district's UPK program
The smallest students in the Cohoes City School District showed their excitement for this weekend's Mastodon Challenge, which will take place on Sunday, May 19 beginning in Craner Park. The teachers and aides in the district's Universal Pre-K program wanted to find a way to show support for the sponsors of the race who are big supporters of the UPK program. more>
Cohoes Middle School to host fifth grade transition events
Cohoes Middle School will host several orientation events to help fifth graders and their families prepare for the transition to middle school. Orientation begins with the annual CMS Mixer on Saturday, May 11, which starts at 10:30 a.m. (please note the time is a CHANGE from the district calendar sent home at the beginning of the year.) "Trout in the Classroom" bring nature to life at Abram Lansing
It's a school within a classroom. And it is 50 or so tiny trout -- being raised in a temperature-controlled tank in Mary Ann DeCarr's fourth grade -- who are providing students there with hands-on lessons in biology, chemistry, ecology, and more. Learn more>>
2013-14 UPK registration set for May 28 through June 5
The Cohoes City School District offers a free, full-day Universal Pre-kindergarten (UPK) program. Children are eligible if they are residents of Cohoes and will be four years old on or before December 1. The number of openings depends on state funding. Learn more here>>
