At its meeting on June 1, the Cohoes City School District Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Laura Tarlo as the new assistant principal of Cohoes High School. Tarlo comes to Cohoes from Shenendehowa Central School District, where she has served over a decade, 11 years as a business teacher and the one year as a class assistant principal at the high school.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Laura to our high school team,” said Superintendent Jennifer Spring, Ed.D. “Her leadership skills and unique perspective as both a resident and graduate of Cohoes will contribute greatly to strengthening our culture of high expectations, so that all students are college and career ready.”
Mrs. Tarlo is a lifelong resident of Cohoes and began her professional experience as a teaching assistant/aide in Cohoes elementary schools 14 years ago. She has a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Plattsburgh, a masters in childhood education from Sage Graduate School, and a bachelor’s degree from Siena College.
"I'm really looking forward to coming back to my hometown and contributing to our school community,” said Ms. Tarlo. “The dedication, energy and commitment of our Cohoes educators is top notch and always has been. It’s exciting to give back and work with the incredible families and community members we have within our school district.”
She added, “The leadership team in Cohoes is doing really innovative work right now and the pendulum is swinging in the right direction. It is an honor to be appointed to this position and I really look forward to getting back to my roots."
Ms. Tarlo’s appointment to the assistant principal position comes after recent reorganization of leadership at Cohoes High School. Upon the retirement of Mr. Joseph Rajczak on June 30, 2016, Mr. Bryan Wood will continue to serve as high school principal, Ms. Tarlo will serve as assistant principal, and Mr. Tom Kostrzebski will continue to serve as assistant principal and athletic director.
