9th Grade Transition/Orientation events

August 8, 2016

We’re very excited to welcome the Class of 2020 to Cohoes High School! Our incoming 9th graders are about to begin a new chapter in their lives, and we are committed to supporting them throughout their time with us. This year, we’re introducing the 9th Grade Academy to ensure our students are engaged in learning and supported to meet their full potential throughout their high school career. We have many exciting programs, enrichment and extracurricular opportunities. Before the school year begins, we have two very important 9th grade orientations to help ease the transition to high school. These events are not the same, so we strongly encourage attendance at both.

August 25, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Students AND Families Invited!

This orientation will include more information on the 9th Grade Academy, academic programs, graduation requirements, attendance, co-curricular opportunities and behavioral expectations. High school staff will be introduced, schedules distributed, lockers assigned, and students will be able to walk their schedules to explore and get acquainted with the building. Students will also receive their first CLASS of 2020 t-shirt!

Google Apps for Education is a major district-wide initiative this year, to improve technology for students and teachers. The high school is at the forefront of this initiative, and your 9th graders will be the first class at Cohoes High School to receive a Google Chromebook to use for the next four years. There will be a question and answer session on Google Apps for Education and the Chromebooks during the orientation.

September 6, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the High School. 9th grade students ONLY!

This orientation is the 9th grade’s first “official” day of school. Students report to the new gym and are divided into several groups. Throughout the day, they will learn more about co-curricular clubs and activities, hear about athletic teams, receive their photo ID cards, get acquainted with the school’s technology and spend time learning about the high school’s rules and code of conduct. After lunch, students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

I look forward to meeting you and your child on August 25. If you are unable to attend, please reach out to me. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 237-9100 x1404.
