August 11, 2016—As part of the approved 2016-17 school district budget, Cohoes created a new senior custodian position to supervise the 26 custodians and cleaners working across the district. Custodian Russ Grestini, who has worked for the district since 1999, was appointed to the supervisory position at the July board meeting.

“I’m very excited to have Russ on board as senior custodian,” said Facilities Director Paul Lamoy. “He has respect from his peers and has been able to effectively lead the cleaning crew to a higher standard district-wide.”

Grestini has been in the position for just over a month and has already made strides by offering added support to the staff, both professionally and personally.

“I would like to work towards freeing the cleaning staff of the pedestrian stigma often associated with us and the work we do,” said Grestini.

Once school begins in September, he will work second shift, supervising staff charged with nightly cleaning, after-hours events and any special assignments.

Russ is a lifelong resident and a graduate of Cohoes High School. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing the guitar. He spends much of his free time volunteering at his church and providing assistance to local people in need.

“He has an incredible work ethic, great personality, and an infectious love of the Cohoes City School District. I feel extremely fortunate to have him on my staff.” Lamoy added.
