Welcome letter from CHS Principal Bryan Wood: 9th grade orientation is Wednesday, August 23

August 17, 2017—We’re very excited to welcome the Class of 2021 to Cohoes High School! Our incoming 9th graders are about to begin a new chapter in their lives, and we are committed to supporting them throughout their time with us. This is our second year of 9th Grade Academy to ensure our students are engaged in learning and supported to meet their full potential throughout their time with us. We have many exciting programs, enrichment and extracurricular opportunities. Before the school year begins, we have one very important 9th grade orientation to help ease the transition to high school. This event is extremely important and we strongly encourage your child to attend, and we want you, their parents and guardians, to attend as well.

August 23, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Students AND Families Invited!

This orientation includes information on 9th Grade Academy, academic programs, graduation requirements, attendance, co-curricular opportunities, CDTA transportation and behavioral expectations. High school staff will be introduced, schedules distributed, lockers assigned, and students will be able to walk their schedules to explore and get acquainted with the building. Students will also receive their first CLASS of 2021 t-shirt!

Students can now take the CDTA shuttle bus to and from school!

On the 23rd, you’ll learn all about the new CDTA shuttle bus routes for all Cohoes students in grades 6-12 beginning on the first day of school--Wednesday, September 6th! Students and parents can speak with a CDTA trainer and tour a bus at this orientation. Please take advantage of this opportunity. The bus pass can be used on any CDTA bus route during the school year and provides a safe and reliable way to get to and from school every day without having to walk!

CDTA trip trainers and a CDTA bus will be outside of CHS for students and their families to take a tour, ask questions and pick up route maps and shuttle schedules. For the first two weeks, ALL students will be permitted to ride the shuttle bus with or without their pass.
More information on the service can be found here: http://www.cohoes.org/Safety/CDTA.cfm

If you would like to receive your bus pass before the first day of school, you can come to CHS on Tuesday, August 29 from 9-11 a.m. I look forward to working with you this year to ensure a successful transportation program for our secondary students! If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mr. Thomas Kostrzebski, CDTA Transportation Coordinator at 237-9100 x1405.

September 6, 2017 at 8:00 a.m.- First Day of School! Students Only!

This orientation is the 9th grade’s first “official” day of school. Students will meet as a class in the High School Auditorium at 8:00 a.m. For about 20 minutes, students will have an opportunity to ask questions and hear from upperclassmen on on what it takes to be successful at Cohoes High School before starting their first class.

I look forward to meeting you and your child on August 23rd. If you are unable to attend, please reach out to me. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 237-9100 x1404.

Sincerely,

Bryan Wood

Principal
