It’s never too early to start planting the seed for higher education in children’s minds and at Van Schaick Grade School they’re doing just that with their 4th Annual College Day!
Students and staff donned their favorite college gear and participated in fun activities throughout the day (including virtual tours of college campuses and activity packets) and were even inspired by former VSGS students, including Maggie Gilligan, a former 5th grade valedictorian who is currently in pharmacy school.
“We provide our students information about educational programs that are related to college and careers, so that they will have as much information as possible to prepare them when making decisions about their future,” said Principal Jacqueline DeChiaro.
The fun kicked off the day before with a visit from Coach Brian Beaury from The College of Saint Rose and six student athletes from the men’s and women’s basketball teams, who spoke to the students about their experiences.
“Our students leave here knowing that there are many different paths they can take once they graduate from high school, college is one of them,” said Mrs. DeChiaro.
This year they are excited to have students who are in all phases of college; CHS seniors who are in the process of applying and being accepted, current college students, and those who have graduated.
In March, VSGS is hosting Career Week, which will showcase an array of careers (some that require college, some that don’t), and the various branches of the military.
