Homecoming weekend is always a source of excitement and pride. It’s not only a time for students and staff to show their school spirit, but it’s a time for the community as a whole to come together.
This year was even more special. With the setting sun throwing off purple and pink hues, and the varsity football team standing proud, Athletic Director Jeff Huneau cut the ribbon on the new turf field.
Superintendent Peggy O’Shea welcomed the crowd and thanked them for sharing in the excitement before introducing Cohoes Board of Education President Nadia Carey.
“The Board of Education wishes to thank the community, who supported this capital project, which allowed us to make repairs to all of our buildings, to build new science classrooms, and to build this incredible new home for our Tigers,” said Mrs. Carey.
Also on the field were CHS Principal Laura Tarlo, Vice Principal Heather Bradt, Board of Education Vice President Margaret Giller and board members Marianne Gendron, Sue Paradis and Renee Snyder.
Before cutting the ribbon, Mr. Huneau told the crowd that the completion of the facility marks the beginning of new opportunities for students, athletes and families.
“This turf field will serve as a place for sports, physical education, and school events—a space where we can foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendships,” he said. “With this new track and turf field, we’re not just investing in sports; we’re investing in the future of Cohoes.”
Following the ceremony, former Cohoes football player Ryan Goergen introduced the 2024 Cohoes Hall of Fame recipients: Dave Lancier, the long-time, beloved voice of Cohoes sports and former Cohoes High School counselor and football coach James Ducharme.
It was a great night of celebration for our student athletes, students and supporters alike who came together to show their Tiger Pride.
Part of the 2022 capital project, construction on Alumni Field began in April and was finished in mid-September. The scope of the project includes new synthetic turf, bleachers, stadium lighting, scoreboard and a new eight-lane track, which is set to be finished in the coming weeks.
