Family, friends, students and staff gathered outside Cohoes High School on Monday afternoon to honor Brittany Knight, whose tragic death last June rocked the community and fueled a call for action to improve pedestrian safety when crossing 787 in Cohoes.
“Brittany was a vibrant young lady who was full of energy,” said Becky Leach, high school social worker. “If Brittany was in the room, you knew she was there.”
Leach continued to describe in detail Brittany’s unconditional love and pride for her family, referencing a familiar photo album she kept with her to share with anyone who expressed interest. She also mentioned her tenacity and her spirit.
Fellow students read poems, and family and friends welcomed attendees to visit with them and view the weeping cherry tree planted in her memory.
The tree will bloom every spring, and grow fuller as time passes. The tree was donated by Troy’s Landscaping.
