Van Schaick Grade School students and staff are celebrating National Character Counts Week in style.
Each day from October 22 to 26, they are wearing a different color to represent a different character trait they aim to exemplify. For example, on Tuesday they wore red for “caring”.
Students are also being recognized each time they demonstrate a positive character trait. They receive a paper brick, which they will use to collectively create displays outside their classrooms at the end of the week.
“These are characteristics we try to instill year-round, in books we read and lessons we teach,” principal Jacqueline DeChiaro said. “But this week we’re just reinforcing what it means to be a good person and a good citizen in our community.”
The week will conclude with the school donating a “tigers” bench to the City of Cohoes.
