Harmony Hill’s Kiera Hovey and Sharon Laughlin recently accepted, on behalf of the school, a “Rookie of the Year” award from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The award was in recognition of the school’s Stuck for a Buck fundraising efforts last March.
Those efforts were inspired by 1st grader Lucas Santoro, who is a survivor of acute lymphoblastic leukemia after being diagnosed at the age of two. With Stuck for a Buck, students and teachers each donated $1 for a piece of duct tape, which they used to collectively tape Lucas and Harmony Hill Principal Mark Perry to a wall in the gym. The fundraiser brought in more than $800, and the school raised about $2,700 for LLS throughout the school year.
