Cohoes students in grades 8-12 were doing their part Monday morning to beautify the city on Global Youth Service Day (GYSD). With rakes and shovels in hand, they volunteered their time at parks, schools, churches, retirement communities and other areas throughout Cohoes.
After the clean-up, barbecues were held at the middle school and high school.
Established in 1988, GYSD celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people who improve their communities through service. GYSD is celebrated each year in more than 135 countries, with young people working together–and with schools, youth organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations, national service programs, government agencies, and adult mentors– to address the world’s most critical issues and change their communities.
