Cohoes senior Chelsey Manor is preparing to “nail it” at an upcoming regional competition.
Manor is in her second year of the Cosmetology Program at Capital Region BOCES and will be among five-dozen students ranging from aspiring diesel mechanics to electricians and chefs competing in the regional SkillsUSA competition on March 18 at SUNY Schenectady County Community College.
“I went last year and it was a great experience. You can learn a lot by watching others and meeting new people,” Manor said.
Manor is competing in a manicure event hosted at SUNY and hopes to advance to the New York State SkillsUSA competition in Syracuse in April.
“This is an important competition as it reinforces the value of these skills and these jobs with the students while allowing them to interact with their peers with similar interests,” said Charles Paravella, principal of Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School.
