In response to feedback from our students and their families, as well as the Governor’s recent executive order loosening restrictions on high school graduations, Cohoes district leaders have decided to change the date and procedures for the Class of 2020 graduation ceremony.
Under the new plan, graduation will be held on Saturday, July 18 on the football field. The executive order issued Sunday allows districts to hold outdoor, socially-distanced graduations of up to 150 people starting June 26.
Considering the number of graduates and family members who will be in attendance, the new plan will still involve several staggered ceremonies. However, the groups will be larger and district leaders hope this will provide a more authentic, enjoyable graduation experience for our seniors and their families.
School leaders hope that postponing the ceremony to July 18 will allow for a further “reopening” of the state and a greater chance for all students in the Class of 2020 to graduate together. We will continue to monitor the latest guidance from the Governor and the NYS Department of Health and adjust capacity restrictions as needed.
More information will be made available in the coming weeks.
