Award-winning children’s author and illustrator Matthew Cordell on Thursday visited Abram Lansing Elementary, where he talked about the process of writing a book, his family, creating characters, and how he became an author.
“Kids are always the best audience,” Cordell said. “They’re always excited to learn about new things.”
Cordell is the recipient of the 2018 Caldecott Medal, awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. He was given the award for his book “Wolf in the Snow.”
On writing children’s books, he said “It’s a very open and accepting and joyful audience. And an honest audience. They tell you what they think.”
