Cohoes senior Shannon Cepiel signed a letter of intent Monday to attend Roberts Wesleyan College and compete on the school’s soccer team.
Cepiel just finished her fifth season as a member of the girls varsity soccer team. She tallied 32 goals and 22 assists, was named Cohoes Athlete of the Week, NewsChannel 13/VENT Fitness Athlete of the Week, and voted a First-Team Colonial Council All-Star.
“I’m excited and relieved,” Cepiel said. “It’s the end, but also a new beginning.”
Roberts Wesleyan became a full member of NCAA Division II in the 2014–15 academic year.
“It’s a small community with a great soccer program and great academics, so it was the best choice for me,” Cepiel said.
She currently has a 96.77 GPA and will pursue a degree in biology with plans of becoming a doctor.
“She worked hard every day and was a leader,” varsity coach Keith Fisher said. “She was voted team captain. Lots of her teammates are here today, so it just shows what kind of person she is and how much they care for her.”
In her five year varsity career, Cepiel netted 51 goals and 64 assists.
