Last week, a group of CHS sophomores had the opportunity to tour the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE) building in Albany.

Students learned about the program last month during a presentation from their counselors and signed up for the field trip on a first come first serve basis.
CHS counselors Lea Miller and Chris Fournier, along with 39 sophomores, toured the facility and learned about many of the 40 programs available to juniors and seniors, including culinary, cosmetology, early childhood education and welding. Students learned about the expectations of the program, met faculty and staff and engaged with current students in the programs.
“I think it is important for students to see the building and programs first-hand,” said Mrs. Miller. “The building and programs are very impressive and attending CTE is a once in a lifetime opportunity. CTE provides a hands-on learning experience in high school that could potentially lead students to a career as soon as they graduate.”
Beginning in February, CHS counselors will be meeting individually with students to discuss their courses for next year. Students who could not make the field trip are invited to the CTE open house on March 6.
