At the January 8, 2025 Cohoes City Board of Education meeting, the board voted to appoint Margaret Giller as the new board president. This decision comes after the resignation of former president Nadia Carey, who served two terms and made a number of notable contributions during her tenure.
Mrs. Giller is familiar with the role having served as president from 2021-2023. For the past year-and-a-half, she has held the position of vice president, further contributing to her experience and understanding of the board’s operations. In her acceptance statement, Mrs. Giller expressed her gratitude and commitment to the school community.
“I am honored to serve as board president for another year. Our school community is one that has always banded together to get the job done, and I hope to contribute to keep meeting those expectations,” she said. “We are lucky to have the support of parents, teachers and staff and will continue to work hard to provide students in Cohoes the best opportunities.”
In addition to Mrs. Giller’s appointment, the board also voted to name Richard Jackson as the new vice president. Mr. Jackson is currently serving his third term on the board, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to this leadership position.
Superintendent of Schools Peggy O’Shea said, “I am looking forward to working with Mrs. Giller and Mr. Jackson in these important leadership roles.”
