Part-time Safety Officer
Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
Working knowledge of the practices and procedures necessary to maintain order and insure the protection of life and the security of buildings, grounds and equipment, working knowledge of school district rules and regulations; ability to exercise sound judgment in carrying out duties; ability to maintain good relationships with students and faculty; promotes positive interactions with students to encourage good behavior and decision making; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; good powers of observation; courtesy and tact; ability to prepare brief written communications; ability to communicate information orally and by written report; ability to use self-defense, restraint techniques and security equipment as necessary, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position; honesty and integrity; good judgment; emotional maturity; courage; reliability
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and two (2) years of experience as a municipal, state or military police officer or correction officer or other equivalent experience; or
Graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma, and three (3) years of experience as a municipal, state or military police officer or correction officer or other equivalent experience; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience as described above.
Special Requirement for Appointment in School Districts:
Candidates must possess a valid New York State Driver’s license at the time of appointment, and must maintain such license throughout the tenure of employment.

Salary: $21/hour

Vacancies are filled by a certified list provided by the City of Cohoes Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to these positions will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Rules for the City of Cohoes Civil Service to obtain a permanent appointment.
