Harmony Hill school recently raised more than $2,400 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Lucas Santoro, the current third-grader who inspired the fundraiser several years ago, was responsible for a majority of the money raised.
Lucas is a survivor of acute lymphoblastic leukemia after being diagnosed at the age of two.
“We do it so we can give money to the hospital so they can help kids in need,” Lucas said. “It feels good because I was a patient and now I get to help.”
The annual fundraiser typically features a “Stuck for a Buck” event where students and staff buy strips of tape to collectively stick Principal Mark Perry and Lucas to a wall in the gym. Lucas said he hopes to bring it back next year.
“It’s fun and I like to see all of my friends smiling.”
