Two seats on the Cohoes City School District Board of Education will be up for election during the annual school budget vote and school board election on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Each seat is for a three-year term that will run from July 1, 2024-June 30, 2027.
The board of education is made up of seven members who take on one of the most important citizen responsibilities: overseeing the education of the community’s youth. School boards are composed of volunteers within the community who dedicate their time to the betterment of public education.
Petition
Petitions nominating candidates for the Cohoes Board of Education are available to qualified district residents and may be picked up at the District Administrative Center, located at 21 Page Avenue, Cohoes, weekdays between 9am and 4pm. Please call the District Clerk at (518) 237-0100 ext. 2350 with any questions you may have.
Candidates must collect 100 signatures, and petitions must be returned by 5 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2024.
Eligibility requirements
School board candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a qualified voter in the district and be able to read and write. They must be residents of their districts continuously for one year immediately prior to the election. At the time when the board member takes office, they cannot be employed by the district or live in the same household with a family member who is also a member of the same school board. They may not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year and may not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office.
