The Cohoes City School District Board of Education recently appointed Jennifer Heeney as the district’s Career Education Coordinator. She is set to begin on October 21.
In her new role, Mrs. Heeney will cultivate relationships and opportunities for career-based learning experiences for students in grades K-12, which supports the district’s vision of ensuring all students graduate from high school with a purpose and a plan.
After 20 years as a teacher at the middle school, the veteran educator wasn’t necessarily seeking a change in her career. However, having a daughter at the high school who is currently pondering her future plans, ultimately led to her interest in learning more about the position.
“My daughter is starting to look at future careers and isn’t aware of the many possibilities that await her,” she said. “I realized that this new position was a great opportunity for me to help kids of all ages see the many avenues that are available upon graduation.”
Mrs. Heeney plans to develop a comprehensive program of school-based learning, business and community job shadowing, internships and work experiences that bring community partners and the district together to meet the goal that every student graduating from high school is career ready.
While she will miss being in the classroom, she is excited for this fresh new change. “I’m eager to jump into this role and am grateful I am still working with kids, but in a different way.”
Mrs. Heeney is set to begin her new role on October 21. Please help us welcome her!
