Meet Dr. Tim Mundell: Interim Assistant Superintendent

At the April 9 Cohoes Board of Education meeting, the board approved the recommendation for Dr. Tim Mundell to continue in his role as interim assistant superintendent through June 20, 2026.

Dr. Mundell, who recently retired as superintendent of the Berne Knox Westerlo School district after nine years, joined us in November and has been a steady presence ever since. He previously served as a middle school principal, a high school principal, a high school assistant principal and a Social Studies teacher, and brings extensive knowledge to this role.

Why did you decide to come out of retirement for this position? Returning from retirement was driven by the opportunity to help a colleague and contribute to the positive initiatives in Cohoes. My main goal is to work with the dedicated staff throughout our schools to achieve the best outcomes for students.

What do you enjoy about serving in the role of Assistant Superintendent? I am enjoying the collaboration with stakeholders as we envision new pathways for students that will allow them to get ready for their future.

How is Cohoes similar to your previous school district? Cohoes is a small city district and my prior district was a rural district, but the challenges and opportunities are fundamentally the same, namely how to provide the best opportunities for students within the resources that are available.

What do you hope to bring to Cohoes? I am excited about the emerging focus on secondary pathways for students. We have a committed faculty and administrators who are bringing forward new program ideas that will be very engaging for students.

What is a fun fact about yourself? I am an avid NY Mets fan, and baseball fan in general.
