Cohoes High School biology teacher Laura Murawski has been selected to join the New York State Master Teacher program.
Murawski recently went through a rigorous application process and on Friday found out she had been accepted to the four-year program.
“I was so excited. Just thrilled,” she said.
Murawski will join a network of over 1,200 outstanding K-12 educators who demonstrate a deep understanding of their content area, pedagogy, and students’ families and communities as well as a commitment to growth in these areas.
“We are extremely proud of what Laura has accomplished as a teaching professional and feel very fortunate to have her as a member of our teaching staff at the high school,” Principal Bryan Wood said.
According to Murawski, the program will provide opportunities for more professional development, collaboration, and access to new teaching materials.
“There’s one training where you can bring biotech equipment into the classroom,” she said. “I want to be a better teacher for my students.”
Murawski is in her sixth year at the high school. In addition to biology, she’s teaching advanced bio and anatomy & physiology this school year.
