The Cohoes City School District Board of Education recently appointed Rebecca LaForest as the district’s Career Education Coordinator. LaForest previously taught technology education at Cohoes Middle School for four years.
This position, funded through the American Rescue Plan grant, supports the district’s vision of ensuring all students graduate with a purpose and a plan; realizing their potential for success after graduation and beyond.
As Career Education Coordinator, LaForest will oversee the planning and implementation of a K-12 aligned career awareness and readiness program, as well as cultivating relationships with area businesses to secure job shadowing, internships and work-based experiences for students.
“I am so excited to help our students find their ‘path’ and to provide them with the resources and opportunities to be successful on that path,” said LaForest.
Additional responsibilities for this role include planning school-based activities and field trips to expose students to postsecondary options and creating Employability Skills Workshops that assist with the job application and interview process and help develop workplace readiness skills.
“I am looking forward to providing teachers with a menu of opportunities and sourcing relevant experiences to bolster what kids are learning,” said LaForest.
Please join the district in welcoming Rebecca into her new role!
