Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Cohoes City School District is conducting an anonymous School Climate Survey to gather input to inform district practices. All schools in New York State will be required to administer this survey next year under the Every Student Succeeds Act. The survey is designed to gauge school climate and asks questions in the areas of school discipline, student support, student engagement, and safety conditions in our schools. We are surveying school staff, students and parents in order to get a full picture of our school climate. The data collected will also help to inform the District’s Comprehensive Improvement Plan. The survey results will be shared at an upcoming board meeting and with building leadership teams.
The student survey will be given to students in grades 5-12 during the school day beginning May 13th. This anonymous survey does not ask about your child’s personal experiences, but rather about their perceptions in the areas of school engagement, school safety and the school environment. All of the questions have been reviewed by district staff and are appropriate for school-aged students. The survey will take about 20 minutes for students to complete.
A copy of the student survey is also available at your child’s school. The survey is completely voluntary. Please notify your school’s principal in writing by May 10th if you do not want your child to participate.
Additionally, we are asking each family to complete one parent survey. You only need to complete one survey even if you have more than one child in the district. You may take the survey by following the link below that corresponds to your child’s school. The survey is available now and I encourage you to complete it at your earliest convenience. If you do not have access to an internet-connected device (e.g. computer, cell phone, tablet, etc.), we will have one available at each of our schools.
Thank you so much for your continued support,
Sincerely,
Jennifer Spring, Ed.D.
Superintendent
