Two candidates running for two open board seats

Two candidates are running for two open Board of Education seats in the June 9 election. Incumbent Margaret Giller is joined by Pete Annely on the ballot. Board members are volunteers and all candidates run at-large. The individuals elected this year will serve three-year terms beginning July 1, 2020.

The requirement to get signed petitions to run for school board was waived by the Governor for this election. Those who chose to run for the school board needed only to submit the application by the deadline of May 11 at 5 p.m.

The board election and budget vote will be held by absentee ballot only. An absentee ballot with a prepaid return envelope will be mailed to all qualified voters. Qualified voters in Cohoes are defined as U.S. citizens who are 18 years or older and have lived in the district for at least 30 days prior to the vote.

Anyone who meets the definition of a “qualified voter” but has not registered to vote must do so to receive an absentee ballot. For information, please contact the district clerk at jmmalone@cohoes.org or the Albany County Board of Elections at boardofelections@albanycounty.com. Online voter registration is available on the DMV website.

All absentee ballots must be returned to the district clerk by 5 p.m. on June 9.
