It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Van Schaick Grade School, where every day brings new opportunities for growth, discovery, and joy in learning. Our school community is built on the foundation of academic excellence, caring relationships, and the belief that every child has unlimited potential.
At Van Schaick Grade School, we understand that elementary school years are crucial in shaping a child’s lifelong love for learning. Our dedicated teachers and staff work tirelessly to create engaging, supportive learning environments where students feel safe to explore, question, and challenge themselves. We believe in nurturing not just academic skills, but also the social, emotional, and creative development that helps children become well-rounded individuals.
We are committed to helping you discover your strengths, overcome challenges, and develop the confidence to pursue your dreams all while following our B’s:
Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be a HERO, because that’s the Tiger Way!
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our programs, upcoming events, and the many ways to get involved in our school community. My door is always open, and I look forward to working together to make your child’s time at Van Schaick a remarkable one.
Warmest regards,
Jacqueline DeChiaro
Attendance
Regular attendance is a necessary requirement for the learning process. The intent of this requirement is to encourage good student attendance and discourage the frequent, unnecessary and casual absences that characterize the attendance records of some students. It is hoped that its implementation will serve to improve student school attendance and thus improve the student’s academic and social achievement as a member of the school community.
In the case of a student’s absence from school, parents are required to call the main attendance office at (518) 237-5044 by 8:00 a.m. to inform us of the reason for the student’s absence.
Learn more about our Attendance policy, including what is considered an excused absence vs. an unexcused absence.
Code of Conduct
Responsible behavior by students, teachers, other district personnel, parents and other visitors is expected as it is essential to achieving this goal. For this to happen, everyone in the school community must demonstrate and offer respect to others.
