Dear Cohoes City School District Families,
The first day of school is one of my favorite days of the school year! We look forward to welcoming our Kindergarten through 12th grade students on Tuesday, September 6 and our Universal Pre-Kindergarten students on Thursday, September 8.
A free breakfast and lunch for all CCSD students will again be provided through the Community Eligibility Provision of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National School Lunch and Breakfast programs.
On August 31, we were very excited to be able to join with all district staff to kick off the opening of a new school year and celebrate their hard work and dedication. We welcomed 22 new teachers and support staff members to our Cohoes family.
We begin this school year with energy, enthusiasm and a renewed focus on our district mission and vision. The mission of the District, a partnership of schools, parents and the community, is to prepare its students for success in tomorrow’s world. In alignment with our district’s vision, A Purpose and a Plan for All!, we are providing additional experiences for students to explore their interests, become aware of the many opportunities available and develop goals to ensure their success.
Our first priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our students, staff and families. We recently received updated COVID-19 guidance from the CDC and the New York State Departments of Health and Education that provides increased flexibility. Physical distancing and cohorting are no longer recommended, so classroom and cafeteria arrangements will provide students with more interaction. Masks are optional in all of our buildings and we ask everyone to be respectful and kind to others whether they choose to wear a mask or not.
As always, one important measure is having your child stay home from school if they are ill, regardless of whether their symptoms are COVID-related. Please review our updated COVID-19 Guidance for the 2022-23 school year in its entirety to answer any questions you might have. We will continue to monitor guidance and provide updates as needed.
Our district and school safety plans were reviewed and revised throughout the spring and summer and we will provide additional information during the first week of school.
Please be sure to check our website, Facebook and Instagram accounts throughout the year to stay current on district happenings. Important notifications will continue to be shared with families through Parent Square.
Have a happy, healthy and successful school year! Thank you for your continued support. If there is anything I can assist you with please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Peggy O’Shea
Superintendent of Schools
