Holiday Hope Program puts a smile on children’s faces

For over 20 years, the Cohoes City School District, in partnership with the City of Cohoes and community agencies, has helped struggling families provide their children with a memorable holiday season.

This year’s Holiday Hope program, located in the Cohoes Senior Center, helped 32 families and 75 children, with over 200 toys handed out.

This non-profit program allows parents/guardians to shop for gifts by earning “Holiday Bucks” through a variety of school and volunteer opportunities.

The program couldn’t happen without the help of our district-wide social workers: Kristie Calderon (VS); Dana DelGenio (ALS); Amanda Regis (HH); Tricia Kinns (CMS); and Angela Tommasini (CHS), as well as Families in Transition Coordinator Mackenzie Lonczak, who shop for the toys and set up the room a few days before the event.

The District is grateful for the $1,200 donation from the Halfmoon Sons of the American Legion Post # 1450, as well as donations from the Rotary Club of Cohoes and The Church of the Holy Trinity parishioners.
